Night Dive Studios specialise in taking classic games and restoring them with shiny, updated graphics. The latest title they’ve been working on is 1996 classic shooter Strife.
The Original Strife: Veteran Edition takes the original FPS/RPG hybrid and adds enhanced graphics and the latest operating system functionality.
Strife takes place in a dark future, in which the religious brotherhood called The Order rules. As a rebel solider you’re trying to recreate an ancient artefact, the Sigil. There’s a bit more to the sci-fi fantasy plot, but it’s all a bit incomprehensible to me. As well as blasting enemies in the traditional Doom style, in Strife you also have light RPG elements and the ability to chat with NPCs in the world.
In addition to all the graphical bells and whistles, the Veteran Edition adds in the original’s planned but missing ‘Capture the Chalice’ multi-player mode, mission objective markers, and a new HUD for the Torpedo weapon.
You can grab The Original Strife: Veteran Edition from a variety of digital distributors, including GOG, Steam and the Humble Store.
