Developer/publisher Team17 has teamed up with independent developer Italic Pig to bring Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark to PC in the third quarter of 2014. They describe the game as ”a fast-and-furious, action-adventure, platformer-puzzler-punch-up.” Which isn’t very helpful, but luckily there’s a trailer that helps you work out what they mean.
“I frickin’ frackin’ love physics,” said Kevin Beimers, Italic Pig’s director, “and I know I’m not the only one out there who does. There are so many cerebrally awesome concepts in physics that, unfortunately, are usually presented as either bafflingly complex or dreadfully dull. With Raiders of the Lost Quark I set out to make an exciting adventure at a subatomic scale that will inspire scientists and non-scientists alike, and a hero that physics lovers like me can rally behind.”
The plot? Some pesky particles have escaped from the Particle Zoo, and it’s up to problem-solving feline Schrödinger’s Cat to find them. Continuing that science theme, our heroic cat hero can combine quarks in order to create various tools and ”useful bits of temporary matter” used to combat vicious gluons, bosons and leptons.
“We are really excited about working alongside Kevin on Schrödinger’s Cat,” said Team 17’s MD Debbie Bestwick, ”when he showed us the game we definitely were not in two minds about it! We’re delighted to be his partner. The man is a genius and beyond!”
Look for Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark in Q3 2014.
