Square Enix has been fairly quiet regarding Deus Ex: Universe after first announcing the title last year, initially describing the project as an “ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.”
Now website Playstation Trophies is claiming that a source within the company has informed them that Universe was originally one single game that has now been split into a Mass Effect-style trilogy.
According to the source the trilogy will carry over major player decisions between entries, just like Bioware's flagship sci-fi series. They also reiterated what Square Enix has already confirmed about crossover entries in the Universe brand coming to tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels and so on.
In addition, the website claims a separate source has claimed to have seen promotional material for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, a trademark filed by Square Enix back in March this year. Apparently the promotional material featured Deus Ex: Human Revolution's pointy-bearded star Adam Jensen and Deux Ex: The Fall protagonist Ben Saxon.
It's possible that Mankind Divided is the first entry in a new Deus Ex trilogy, but this is all still rumour for now. We'll keep an eye out for any official response from Square Enix or franchise developers Eidos Montreal.
