The first in-game footage from Gearbox’s MOBA/shooter hybrid Battleborn has emerged. IGN posted a video which was taken at a recent preview event.
It looks… like you’d expect a cross between Borderlands and DotA 2 to look. While the game can be played against both computer-controlled enemies and 5-man teams of other players, this is from the PvE mode.
The game’s got that cartoonish, simple visual style the DotA 2 nails so well, and the characters and enemies all look pretty cool. Each hero has some unique toys and powers to play with; some pack melee weapons and carve through hordes of robotic minions, while others prefer bows and miniguns.
I’m not sure the footage here will blow anyone away, but the basic idea looks kind of fun. There’s a distinct Borderlands vibe to the co-op shooting, unsurprisingly. A huge watermark on the bottom of the screen also reminds us that this is a very early build, so the game might have some more tricks up its sleeve.
Battleborn is coming to PC and current-gen consoles next year.
