It probably won’t surprise you that of all the possible studios out there, developers really, really want to work at Valve. That’s the finding of a recent survey from the IGDA that quizzed more than 2,200 developers.
In fact the top four or five choices are probably the ones you’d expect, big studios known for creating blockbuster games.
The second choice is ‘my own studio’, which makes sense. I mean, your own studio would be nice, but it wouldn’t come with your own Gabe, would it? Then it’s Activision Blizzard, Bioware and Ubisoft. Having played Black Flag, I feel like I’ve already worked at Ubisoft, and frankly I could give it a miss. Those who’ve played that game will know what I mean.
There’s a bit of a console focus, and there’s plenty of great studios who don’t get a mention, but the top choices are understandable. Hey, there’s no Crytek though! Wonder why that is? Here’s the top ten list:
1. Valve
-
My own company
-
Activision Blizzard
-
BioWare
-
Ubisoft
-
Current employer
-
Nintendo
-
Naughty Dog
-
Double Fine
-
Bethesda Game Studios
