Self-reflexive comedy adventure The Stanley Parable, a videogame that breaks the mould by actually being funny, has sold more than 1 million copies on Steam.
Developer Davey Wreden announced the news on Twitter. “A few years ago no one had any idea who I was,” he wrote. “Today The Stanley Parable has sold a million copies. Thank you.”
The Stanley Parable was released in October last year, meaning that this landmark roughly concedes with its first anniversary. One million sales is a very reasonable result for a game that’s far from your regular populist fare. One that in fact spends a lot of time doing its best to wind you up. Maybe people do have a sense of humour after all.
Actor Kevin Brighting, who voices the game’s narrator, also commented on the figure; “The Stanley Parable has sold over a million copies. The Narrator decided not to tell Stanley. It might make him fractious. Or big-headed.”
