Sony Online Entertainment announced today that online sandbox game Landmark has transitioned from alpha stage into closed beta.
”Alpha was an extraordinary time where the players blew us away with their creations at every turn,” said Dave Georgeson, Director of Development for the EverQuest franchise in a statement released today. ”Time and time again, players are discovering and building things with our tools in ways that we didn’t even know were possible … we simply cannot wait to see how Landmark evolves with the start of Closed Beta.”
Landmark is a sandbox game in which players can build various structures and items while exploring a huge fantasy environment. Apparently items and buildings created in the game will transfer to the upcoming Everquest Next, the highly anticipated next entry in the venerable MMO series. Below you can see some examples of what players have been creating during the alpha stage.
Director of Development Dave Georgeson explained the nature of the open beta recently in a letter posted on the game’s official forums.
”Okay, so let’s talk about Closed Beta and what you can expect. Closed Beta is going to be similar in nature to Alpha, but it will be a longer phase with some of the major features being introduced in to the game. We’ll be adding Combat (which includes damage, death, and risk), the crafting overhaul we’ve talked about on the forums, Player Studio, caves, water (both static and dynamic), loot (heck yeah!), SOEMote, a journal to track your progression, achievements, collections, an improved map, salvaging, guilds, ley lines, pvp, and more! We’ll be updating The Blueprint (formerly the roadmap) regularly so that everyone knows our plans and priorities!”
