During the London Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival this weekend, Square Enix revealed a few new pieces of information about the game’s upcoming expansion, Heavensward.
Most notably, flying mounts and the new Dark Knight job class. Because the only thing better than a chocobo is a chocobo than can fly you to work.
Two of the new mounts were announced, the aforementioned chocobo and single-rider airships. Both will both “make it easier to explore the floating lands that will be featured prominently in the expansion,” says Square. The wording of the press release is slightly ambiguous, but it seems likely we’ll see other types of flying mount too.
As for the Dark Knight job, it’s a tank class that wields a two-handed greatsword, and utilizes darkness-based attacks. Unlike other jobs, it won’t feature a base class that later evolves into a job. Sounds a bit like World of Warcraft’s Death Knights.
In other news, Square also detailed two new beast tribes, the Vanu Vanu and the Gnath, as well as their primals, Bismarck, and Ravana respectively. Director and producer Naoki Yoshida concluded the keynote by waving around a gun (not a real one, thankfully) and promising that more jobs would be revealed soon. Expect a gun-wielding class, basically.
