Sadly, thanks to Hideo Kojima and Konami's epic falling out, we'll never see what the Metal Gear creator would have done with the Silent Hill franchise. Even his masterpiece in viral horror, P.T has been removed from circulation.
Fortunately, if you're a fan of mounting dread, the team at new UK studio Lilith Ltd is creating a first-person horror game for the PC called Allison Road, which is heavily inspired by P.T. The studio's released the first gameplay trailer, and the whole thing looks absolutely horrible. In a really good way.
P.T never made it to the PC, of course, but its looping, haunted house corridor and regular moments of trouser-dampening terror became something of a pop culture smash hit when it was released last year. Allison Road is set in a similarly creepy suburban location, and takes place over the course of five nights. The main character is wakes up with no memory of the past few days, and must find his family and unravel the mystery of the house, while facing off against “dark entities” lurking within it.
“At this point pretty much all of our core mechanics are in place,” writes the team, “however, some actually didn't make the cut-off for the video; The inventory is one of those things. We'll showcase that at some point in the future. Everything you see here is work in progress of course; some of the assets are just stand-ins and stuff like that, however, it was important to us to show you what Allison Road looks like when played.”
Allison Road was Greenlit on Steam earlier this month (with a projected release date of October 2016, incidentally), and comments from the developer on its Facebook page suggest there's a Kickstarter in the works as well. Judging by the quality of what we've seen so far, and the general love for P.T, I'd expect the crowd-funding campaign to explode.
