Square Enix confirmed last year that Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (the third chapter in the FFXIII arc) would be released on the PC. Since then,we haven’t heard much about it, and fans had begun to wonder whether the company had abandoned their plans.
Fortunately for fans of grumpy yet battle-hardened warrior women, Lighting and friends are on the way; yesterday Square reassured fans via Twitter that a PC version is still being worked on.
“A lot of people have been asking about Lightning Returns on PC & while we can’t confirm a release date, don’t worry, it is still coming,” reads the tweet in question.
Not exactly the concrete details that people may have been hoping for, but a good sign nonetheless. Final Fantasy XIII hit Steam back in October 2014, while sequel Final Fantasy XIII-2 cropped up in December of the same year. You can understand, then, why fans were beginning to doubt that Lightning Returns would follow suit, almost a year later.
Here’s hoping the third game is released in a slightly better state than its predecessors; the first game was restricted to SD resolutions upon release, and quit to desktop completely if you pressed the Esc key. Though to be fair to Square, they eventually sorted out those problems with a free patch.
