Take Two interactive announced in its quarterly earnings report today that Gearbox Software is delaying its upcoming character-based shooter Battleborn from May of 2016.
The game was originally slated to release on February 9th of 2016, but Take Two has had little to say outside of the initial announcement about what is causing the delay or why. We’ll offer more on this story as it develops, but the date for release has been announced as May 3rd for the time being.
Update:
Gearbox issued an official statement on the Battleborn website a moment ago regarding the delay of the game:
”We at Gearbox are feeling energized by the data of our Closed Technical Test, and the additional time will allow us to better act on the feedback for Battleborn competitive and cooperative play when it releases. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work tirelessly on Battleborn. We look forward to sharing the Open Beta with everyone next year.”
This points to the possibility of issues that may have come to to light during the testing period, which would give some legitimacy to the delay of the game. Either way, Gearbox seems to need time and Take Two is giving it to them. Hopefully it will lead to a considerably better Battleborn when the Open Beta comes in 2016.
