Sega has registered a domain for Dawn of War 3, suggesting that developer Relic Entertainment may be working on another installment in the Warhammer 40K RTS series.
It’s not definitive evidence, of course; companies often register domain names as a precaution, and this may just be Sega covering its bases, but it’s been a couple of years since Relic released Company of Heroes 2, so the timing would make a certain kind of sense.
Despite its enduring popularity, we haven’t seen a game in the Dawn of War series since 2011’s Dawn of War 2: Retribution, a final hurrah expansion pack for the second entry that added separate campaigns for five different factions. That game was built on the second generation of Essence, Relic’s proprietary game engine - any future entry in the series would presumably be built on the third iteration used for Company of Heroes 2, or perhaps even a new, updated version.
This is all guesswork for now, of course. Sega still has a strong hand on Games Workshop’s IP, though. You might have heard that The Creative Assembly is working on a little game called Total War: Warhammer.
