I’m resisting making any jokes about boldly going where no-one has gone before (oh… dammit), but GOG.com has put up three classic Star Trek games for sale for the first time.
Star Trek 25th Anniversary has you play as good old Captain Kirk himself in a point-and-click adventure, as does sequel Star Trek: Judgment Rites, while Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has you following in the big man’s footprints by trying to earn your own captain’s pips.
Above you can check out the charming FMV intro to Starfleet Academy, starring a slightly bored-looking George Takei and William Shatner. The two Original Series actors pop up throughout the game, handing out advice to protagonist Cadet David Forester and his team. This is one that interests me the most. The other two games are classic point and click style adventures, but Starfleet Academy almost seems like a proto-Telltale game; your choices in dialogue scenes apparently caused or solved various personality clashes within your cadet squad, and could even lead to you getting unceremoniously booted out of the academy.
”Beam us up, GOGbear! We’re one a voyage to trek across galaxies, and we’re taking everyone along. Today is the beginning, who knows what the distant future may bring?”, writes GOG, suggesting perhaps that other Star Trek games might also be popping up in the store.
For now, though, each of the three titles above is available for £4.09, and you can buy them all together for £12.27. Beam me up, Scotty. Live long and prosper. KHAAAAAAAN!. I’m done now
