Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a very good game, but come the final everything sort of fell apart. Essentially you were given a simple choice of several different endings, none of which were particularly affected by your actions in the rest of the game.
Developer Square Enix promises that won't be the case with upcoming sequel Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which will have a more complex setup.
“We don’t want to have a ‘choose your ending’ at the end of the game,” producer Olivier Proulx told PCGamesN, “but it’s complex to build organically, the choice of the players, and have it reflected towards the end of the game."
The team is obviously not going to start discussing the specifics of the game's ending sequence, or even how many there are, but Proulx does promise that choices made early in the game will come back around to affect the finale. He also confirmed that the game would have a definitive ending, rather than a setup for a sequel.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided[/b is out next February 23, 2016.
