Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of 2K and Rockstar parent company Take-Two has said that he sees comparisons between Mafia 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5 as invalid.
The declaration came during an earnings call for Take-Two following their earnings report where Zelnick rebuffed the notion that the two franchises could be compared.
“Mafia 3 is a completely different experience. I wouldn’t compare it to anything else out there. The reveal [at Gamescom] was great, but it stands alone. We don’t use any other game in the same sentence as Grand Theft Auto. It is the industry’s standard-bearer. It’s not up for comparison.”
Zelnick also went onto say that Take-Two views 2K and Rockstar as two entirely seperate entities, with no tech sharing currently occurring between the studios.
After its reveal at Gamescom last week, no release date has yet been divulged for Mafia 3. 2K however, has stated that the game is expected to release sometime during fiscal 2017, thereby also implying that eager folks shouldn't expect to get their hands on the highly anticipated threequel until April 2016 at the earliest.
