Daum Games has announced that the first closed beta for their MMO Black Desert Online is now live, and will run through to 22 December 2015. The developer has also announced a ton of in-game events and contests for players to occupy themselves with as they test out the game.
For example, Black Desert boasts an extensive dye system that allows players to dye parts of their equipment. So, to show it off, players will receive five dye bundles daily, each containing 3 dyes. This will give players an opportunity to test out combinations of any two dyes and get the hang of dyeing their equipment.
Fishing will also be a part of the game, and Daum states ”there are over one hundred fish that are unique to different regions,” with distinctions between freshwater and saltwater fish. To show that part of the game off, a fishing tournament will be held daily at Cron Castle Cliff to try to capture the elusive Bellfish. Players who screen capture the fish in their inventory will get a unique in-game title when the game launches.
Unlike many MMOs, players can try to capture and train wild horses as mounts. Players who level up their animal taming skill to level 5 can engage in a wild horse training tournament. ”Once your taming skill is Beginner Lv 5 you will need to craft some sugar Lumps and purchase a few Capturing Ropes,” states the tournament rules. ”To craft a sugar lump you will need to purchase 10 raw sugar and 1 mineral water, from any Chef, which you can usually find in an inn, then you heat the together with the production menu (J). Capturing Ropes can be purchased from any stable-hand.”
Players will also get to enjoy The Festival of Lanterns, which will be to show off some storm weather effects. Shadows Looming will teach players how to deal with the powerful night creatures by getting in groups to take them down, and the Copy Cat contest, where players use the character creation tool to see who can make the best imitation of themselves, a friend or celebrity.
Players who pre-ordered the Conqueror’s Package will automatically be entered in both this first Beta test and the upcoming second one. Players can still place their pre-orders at the official website.
