I seem to remember writing a story almost exactly the same as this one in the months running up to Unity’s release, but here we go anyway; Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’s creative director Marc-Alexis Côté claims that studio Ubisoft Quebec is taking their time to make the PC version of the game ”shine”.
Ubisoft’s past record with PC ports is mixed at best. Though some, like Far Cry 4, have held up pretty well, for every success there’s been a buggy, unplayable launch like Unity’s or a consumer-punishing DRM feature. Côté promises that with Syndicate, things will be better.
”We’ve got an internal team that’s dedicated to the PC version, and one of the things that I’m happy about is that we’re really taking our time with the PC version to really make it shine,” he said in an interview with PC Gamer at E3 last week. ”We want the game to really work well on the PC on day one, which is why it’s not the same launch [date] as the Xbox One and the PS4 versions. It will come a bit later in the fall, but I think it will be worth the wait.”
As I say, we’ve heard this before, and we all know how the Unity launch went down. The again, that game had serious issues across all platforms, so perhaps with an extra year to sort out the issues, Ubisoft can come up with a better effort all round.
”We’re working really hard on optimizing the game, making it run smoother on a wider range of PCs,” says Côté. ”We’re really dedicating a team to working on this and making sure it shines.”
Assassins’ Creed: Syndicate is out on next-gen consoles this October, with a PC launch planned shortly after.
