A new Civilization: Beyond Earth update is on the way shortly, and will introduce connectivity with Firaxis’ upcoming space strategy, Sid Meier’s Starships.
There’s a good reason for that, both take place within the same universe after all, but it’s not yet known just how the integration will work. All Firaxis is saying is that the patch will allow the Starships and Beyond Earth teams to ”pass information” between the two games.
”This is our first experiment with this cross-game connectivity,” explains the developer. ”We’re handling this through my2K. If you log into your my2K account within Starships or Beyond Earth, then we will be able to establish a connection between the two games. If you don’t already have a my2K account, you’ll need to create one. For now, this system works for Beyond Earth and Starships, but may extend to future titles as well.”
Future titles, eh? Interesting. I wasn’t totally blown away by Beyond Earth in my review, but the universe it created was interesting enough that I’m interested to see what Firaxis has in store or the future.
In other news, the update adds an ‘incoming transmissions’ screen to Beyond Earth’s main menu where players can find the latest news on upcoming updates and fixes, a reworking and repricing of several of the game’s Wonders, and changes to the way trade routes function.
You can find the full patch notes here. There’s no word on exactly when we’ll see the update added.
