Indie developer Scott Cawthon seems to be attempting a one-man demonstration against the very concept of a planned release schedule. His puppet horror game Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 was originally set for a Halloween release, then earlier this month Cawthon brought the date forward to August.
And now it’s suddenly popped up on Steam, ready to download and play. You can grab it for $8/£5.59.
”Ok, so as many of you already know, I’m bad with release dates. The game is finished,” admits Cawthon. ”Enjoy!” He has also responded to fan concerns about the game’s full-screen option not working correctly, saying that he would have a fix ready for that before the day is out.
Described as the last chapter of the Five Nights at Freddy’s story, in this fourth game the demonic Freddy Fazbear and his pals have followed you home, and rather than security doors and cameras, all you have is a flashlight to defend yourself. Which seems a tad unfair.
”It will scare away things that may be creeping at the far end of the hallways,” according to the game’s Steam page, ”but be careful, and listen. If something has crept too close, then shining lights in its eyes will be your end.”
