Earlier today we reported a story originating from Gamespot which suggested the PVP base invasion FOB mode from Metal Gear Solid 5 required microtransactions to access.
Konami has released an official statement refuting that claim, stating clearly that the idea that the game’s multiplayer elements would be hidden behind a paywall is ”simply not true.” Here’s the statement in full:
”Gamespot posted an article following the review that the PVP (FOB) mode in MGSV TPP will be restricted behind a micro-transaction paywall and that is simply not true. The FOB mode will be fully accessible at launch and the micro-transaction layer to that specific feature in the game primarily acts as an accelerator. We’ll have more details at launch, but we did try and clear these rumours up when they started circulating during E3. We even addressed this in our official E3 2015 demo when it went live during that show.”
Konami is promising that the full game will be there to play on launch, multiplayer and all. Well, aside form the competitive team-based mode, of course, which has been pushed back to early 2016. It sounds like in-game MB Coins will be used to speed up the process of building your PVP bases. Which could potentially turn out to be a stumbling block on its own, but let’s not accentuate the negative, eh?
