I checked the dates, and April 1 is still a while off. Which means this ridiculous story must be true; Geralt’s beard will continue to grow in The Witcher 3 unless you shave, or download a DLC to stop the hair growing.
Not a joke, apparently. German gaming mag Gamestar recently reported the bizarre feature, which was revealed in a cover feature on CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated fantasy RPG.
”The beard grows as time passes and when Geralt moves between locations,” CD Projekt’s communications chief Michał Platkow-Gilewski explains to Eurogamer. ”The beard has several “states” and these states determine its length - the longest is really long but it’s not Gandalf-long.”
”When you download the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC the growth of the beard will stop because we decided that when players want a predefined look, it would be weird to require from them to reapply it time after time.”
Video games are weird. It should be pointed out that the aforementioned Beard and Hairstyle DLC is a free download, so you’re not actually forced to pay to shave your Geralt. Things haven’t got that bad yet.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches on May 19, extensive facial hair mechanics and all.
