Rock Band 4 is currently in the midst of a crowdfunding campaign to get itself a proper PC version. Harmonix answered some fan questions today to clarify some concerns about the port.
Harmonix’s Josh Harrison took to Reddit to answer some fan questions. Most notably, ”Once the Sumo-developed port launches, we’ll be bringing ongoing updates in-house. We don’t want to dive into a crappy port once the code is passed back to us, so it’s very important to us that the PC version stands alongside the PS4/XB1 versions in quality. Also, the ongoing updates post-launch will release alongside console, no waiting required!” They also confirmed that, much like the console versions, basically any microphone you can connect to your PC will work in-game.
In a slightly more concerning note, they’re not yet willing to commit to DRM policy. ”We’d love for it to be typical Steam DRM, but we’re also very aware of how the security landscape is different on PC than consoles. We honestly don’t have an answer for this one way or the other yet and need to do some more investigation once this moves into development.”
They want the port to have the options and customizability expected of a PC game, but because work hasn’t yet started on the new version, they can’t commit to specific details on options and features. But ”if you’ve got a beefy PC, we want the game to look its best.”
