Esports have truly arrived. Psyonix announced today that they’ll be partnering with Twitch for an official Rocket League Championship Series.
Twitch will not just be broadcasting league play, but will be helping to build the community and infrastructure necessary to support organized play. “From the moment we hit the pitch last July, we knew that Rocket League was a legitimate esport,” says Jeremy Dunham, the vice president of Psyonix. “Twitch and its streamers have been an instrumental part of our success since we launched last July, and that made them a perfect match for us. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with a team that we respect as highly as we do Twitch, and we can’t wait to show the world what we can do in esports together!”
Players will be able to register in teams of three starting March 25 for RLCS’s inaugural 3-month season. Teams will be competing for a piece of a $75,000 prize pool. That’s not MOBA money, but it’s not insignificant, either.
Official broadcasts will be at twitch.tv/rocketleague, and more details can be found at RLCS’s official site.
