Remember that great announcement by Microsoft earlier this week about the publisher fully supporting Xbox Play Anywhere from this point on? Well, about that… Microsoft have decided that they aren’t actually going to live up to that promise, at least not for any games shown after E3 2016.
This was the exact quote by Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Windows and Devices Group. ”Every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store.”
Mehdi’s statement has now been changed to this: ”Every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store.” Note the change stating only the games shown at E3 will support Xbox Play Anywhere, though this was to be expected as Microsoft explicitly stated Halo would not come out on PC not long ago.
It doesn’t matter too much about future games potentially not supporting Xbox Play Anywhere. PC players will still get to play Gears of War 4, Crackdown 3 and even Scalebound all without having to purchase an Xbox One. We are sure Microsoft will continue to support Xbox Play Anywhere in the future, it just might not be with a Halo game (but who really wants that anyway?).
