The upcoming Spartan-fueled RTS, Halo Wars 2, had a beta back in June coinciding with the game’s E3 reveal. However, despite the game’s planned cross-platform release, that beta was only available on Xbox One. But a new beta has been announced which will be available both to console and PC players.
That beta will come early in 2017, presumably ahead of the game’s February release. While the new preview will come to PC, it is only for Windows 10, which means that the recent Steam release of Quantum Break with Windows 7 support probably is not a precedent. The new beta will likely be a more fully-featured preview of the final game than the original test.

Dan Ayoun, head of strategy games at 343 Industries said “As a reminder, this was more a technical preview of where we are in development, or as I like to refer to it, a true development beta. This not only enabled us to test our backend and tuning, but also to put the game in the hands of players early enough that we could respond to feedback.”
You can read a bit more on the lessons learned from the beta in the official update. Halo Wars 2 is scheduled for release on February 21, 2017. It’ll be interesting to see how the console-focused RTS translates back to the PC, which is certainly the primary platform for the genre. We’ll see what Creative Assembly is able to do with it soon.
