id Software’s search for a Senior Physics Programmer may suggest the company are planning to create a new Quake game.
The listing for the Senior Physics Programmer job states the following: ”id Software is looking for a Senior Physics & Simulation Programmer to work as part of a development team on legendary id game properties like DOOM and QUAKE, developing physics and simulation technology for the game industry’s most advanced engine technology. This position requires engaging in a proactive, high energy development environment on our core technology team.”
The key thing to point out here is that every other id Software job listing specifically mentions “id Software’s iconic brands such as Wolfenstein, DOOM, QUAKE and RAGE” whereas this one says “to work as part of a development team on legendary id game properties like DOOM and QUAKE”.
We may be jumping the gun here, but there are reasons to believe a Quake remake could be in development. First of all, it’s the twentieth anniversary of Quake, which we expect the company to at least make reference to at QuakeCon (a yearly convention celebrating id Software’s games) this year. Secondly, one of the developers of Quake Live, SyncError has hinted about the arrival of a new Quake title.
After the revival of the Doom series, we cannot wait to see what id Software have planned for Quake. If you haven’t read out Doom review, you can read it here. Chris Capel scored the game an excellent nine out of ten.
