NeoGAF user Shinobi, who had previously broke the news that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 would feature such Titanfall-ish gameplay elements like wall-running and cyborg characters with robotic limbs, has made some claims on the message board that people are taking very seriously: the next Call of Duty will be unabashedly set in the far-flung future.
How futuristic? He states that the next game in the series would be ”very far future. Space combat. Full on sci-fi,” and later added it ”makes Black Ops 3 feel like the stone age. Metaphorically of course.”
The most interesting thing is that Activision won’t have a booth this year. Rather, the only real presence for the publisher will be in Sony’s booth, where the next Call of Duty game will be shown off. With Activision having recently acquired Major League Gaming as a way to broadcast its Call of Duty eSports league, it seems Call of Duty will be the publisher’s tentpole game for 2016.
Stay tuned, as GameWatcher will be following this story very closely. It’ll be interesting to see when Activision actually reveals what the next Call of Duty game will be. It’s entirely possible that it’ll guard the info til E3 2016 itself.
