Destiny 2's PC port has been hailed as a marvel of PC engineering at this point. In a time where lazy ports are all around us, Bungie seemingly did the impossible. Then a hotfix managed to undo their hard work.
Firing up at about 5 PM GMT yesterday, a hotfix patch was applied to the game during routine maintenance. Once the servers fired up again around two hours later, users reported 'micro stutter' issues that were now crippling gameplay. For those unaware, micro stutter is a term used when framerates taking a massive drop for a split second very frequently - usually when something pops into view.
Personally, everything seemed fine for me during a 7PM-11PM session in a full fireteam. My system is getting fairly old these days, but I've recorded drastically reduced framerates throughout the game when looking in a certain direction on just about any planet. I haven't been able to iron out whether it's a bottleneck on my part, or just a problem when a sprawling vista comes into view.

Either way, users began to notice micro stutter with the latest patch when they would have otherwise enjoyed a silky smooth experience. With more and more reporting similar issues on Reddit, a Bungie representative showed up to acknowledge the issue and ask that those suffering the glitch post their event logs, config and process logs up onto a specifically setup thread on the official forum - so if you thought this was something they'd just ignore, don't be so quick to write them off.
Likely waiting for some conclusive evidence to come out of a large supply of data, the more users who suffer and chip in with their experiences, the faster this will get ironed out. There's no fix in sight just yet, but every little helps.
As for those emply Cayde-6 boxes... we'll have to wait and see.
