Attempting to break the mold and call out those being a little cruel to them for not setting a specific release date, the guys behind Friday The 13th: The Video Game have made a lengthy forum post explaining why why they haven't pencilled in.
For the most part, it needn't be as long as it is. But through efforts to bypass the red tape scattered throughout the industry, the developers want to do the noble thing and explain why interested players are usually kept in the dark when it comes to certain aspects of game development.
Simply citing that console certification is the one big blockade stopped the game from having a confirmed release date right now, they go into further detail as to why this is the case for them while others seemingly have solid release windows far in advance.

Essentially boiling down to money, big name publishers can essentially skip the queues when it comes to getting their games out there. While smaller titles need to be rigorously tested against the varying requirements of sale outlined by the multiple different territorial divisions of console manufacturers, bigger publishing labels have the influence and high-value worth to the companies in question to essentially fast-track their efforts and become available for pre-order far earlier than the 30-day requirement imposed on the little guy.
So while we've seen a decent amount of the game thus far, the team is working hard to fine-tune the game and doesn't want to give out a release date in case they manage to fail one of the certification checks - thus leading to a disappointing delay. It's another fine case of 'Out when it's ready', where that's down to the big guns.
