Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, which will soon be released on the 8th of May, will be getting a healthy amount of post-launch content support. The game's predecessor, Pillars of Eternity, got an expansion split into two parts called the White March following its release, and the sequel is one-upping it with a trio of expansions.
The first expansion might seem a bit familiar. Titled the Beast of Winter, the expansion's logo is styled snowy and icy - not unlike the White March before it. Coming in July 2018, this story-focused expansion will take the player to a new island not present in the base game (a trend followed by the other two expansions as well) where they will face off a doomsday cult, and will visit an alternate plane of existence called The Beyond, which is populated by the franchise's all-important souls.
The second expansion will be more combat-oriented, offering a greater measure of challenge than regular, narratively driven content. Seeker, Slayer, Survivor will be released in September, and will once again add a new, previously undiscovered island. Here, the Watcher and his group of followers will face off against various other fighters who have risen to fame in the game's fantasy world. Expect some kind of arena or coliseum.
The third and final expansion veers back to story-driven content with The Forgotten Sanctum, which will associate the player with the greatest magic users in Eora. A character-driven tale, this expansion will see the relationships between the party members strained, and will present moral conundrums unlike what the main storyline would throw at you. Based on the official description - "Will you befriend, betray or befuddle these venerable mystics?" - suggests there will be opportunity for legendary mischief.
All of this will be included in the $24.99 Season Pass, or the expansions will be individually available for $9.99 each. Obsidian Edition owners, or crowdfunding backers who backed at the Collector's Edition tier or higher will get this post-launch content as part of their game version.
