Age of Mythology: Retold’s Obsidian Mirror DLC is now available for pre-order ahead of its April 21, 2026 release. Acting as the central part of the real-time strategy game’s first expansion pass, it introduces the much-requested Aztec pantheon, which comes with its own set of deities and fresh mechanics.
Owners of the Obsidian Mirror DLC can use the powers of three new major gods – Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, and Huitzilopochtli – alongside nine new minor deities that tap into different flavors of fear and illusion to gain the upper hand.

“Lay traps, manipulate enemy behavior, harvest life force, and construct towers from fallen foes,” reads a blurb shared by the publisher.
“At the heart of Aztec power lies Tonalli, the essence of life released in battle. Every fallen warrior will fuel divine Favor and empower your gods and driving your civilization forward. Even your villagers can offer their life force when greater power is needed.”
Sacrifice, appropriately enough, seems to play an important role in mastering the new faction introduced in Age of Mythology: Retold’s Obsidian Mirror DLC.
Aside from new powers to tinker with, the DLC also introduces a 12-mission campaign centered around divine conflicts and the fate of the Aztec people.
As the clash between Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca leads to the destruction of the city of Aztlan, Huitzilopochtli leads his followers southwards, attempting to establish a new empire.
Tezcatlipoca uses his Obsidian Mirror to cross continents in search of legendary allies to help him reestablish himself as a dominant force, and we’re thrown right at the center of it all.

On Steam, it benefits from a limited-time 15% discount that ends on its release day. In addition to being purchasable separately, the DLC is also included in the AoM: Retold’s first expansion pass, which also adds Demeter as a new deity alongside a set of cosmetic changes.
