In the age of vast open worlds, few developers are trying to replicate the more restrained scope of the early 3D sandboxes of the 2000s. Agefield High: Rock the School plans to do not only that, but also to riff on Rockstar’s Bully and the teenager flicks of the era.
Refugium Games is aiming high with this passion project which has been brewing for a good while, and the developers are currently aiming for a summer 2026 launch on PC (with console versions planned for later) via Steam. For now, a generous story trailer with all the right energy has hit YouTube:
This trailer focuses on the starring trio of Sam, Kale, and Axel. The players will take control of Sam Tatum, who fits into the typical role of the “new kid in town” who can’t stop getting into all sorts of trouble.
“Between overbearing parents, pervy teachers, and a smug school rival dead set on ruining their plans, these teens are ready to push back, break rules, and rock their last months of high school on their own terms.”
The developers are promising a branching narrative that follows a traditional mission structure even if the entire town seems fully explorable, with locations like bike shops and tattoo parlors (customization is in) available to enter.
As for the school simulation and “side hustles”, Sam can attend or skip classes like English and Music, or take part in side activities like prank calls and lawn mowing to earn a bit of cash. No matter what, a pop-punk soundtrack adds extra 2000s vibes to the unpredictable experience, which seems to be doubling down on the chaotic teen movies we vividly remember coming out all the time, stupid school bullies included.
