Anthem, Bioware’s first foray into loot-driven third-person shooters, is finally out for Origin Access Subscribers, and the feedback from players seems rather mixed. While the full version comes with improvements, especially surrounding the way flying controls on PC, many players have bumped into lots of long loading screens that also take their sweet time before letting players control their Javelins again.
But are Anthem’s long loading times normal?
Are Anthem's Long Loading Times Normal?
<p>
Anthem’s long loading screens were a nuisance since its VIP demo, both because of how frequently they occured and their length, and the full launch hasn’t resolved their situation.
The most troubling news comes from players reporting load times taking as long as over two minutes when trying to get into Anthem’s Freeplay mode.
While other loading times are considerably shorter, the situation is far from ideal, especially given how often they occur. Although Anthem is an open world game, there are loading screens when switching between interior and exterior areas, when loading mission cutscenes and even when you end up too far from your party. That’s without counting things such as loading up your inventory or the forge.
Sadly, Anthem’s long loading times seem to be normal, being experienced by plenty of players. There also isn’t an official solution and workaround as of yet. Although the day one patch was supposed to optimise the experience for players using HDDs, installing Anthem on an SSD is for the best. It’s also about as much as you can do, at least at the moment.
