Armatus, a third-person roguelite shooter set in the demon-infested ruins of Paris, has just been announced. It’s currently set to launch in 2026, and here’s everything we know about it so far.
The game comes from the developers at Counterplay Games, the studio behind Godfall. Once again, they’re trying to mix the thrills of action-RPG roguelites and higher production values that fuel ambitious original world-building. It certainly looks intriguing and really fun in an old-fashioned way, but can it fix the mistakes of their previous game?
Armatus Release Date
Though it seems Armatus is quite well-developed at this stage, publisher Fictions hasn’t shared a release date yet. There’s a wide release window we hope Counterplay Games can hit though:

Armatus Story
Armatus’ first trailer doesn’t shy away from plot details, but we don’t know a lot of specifics yet.
We know it follows “the last supernatural warrior of an ancient order” as he takes on demonic forces and searches for a lost gateway to heaven, the Sunless Gate, in Paris after the world as we know it has ended.
Beyond the obvious gameplay similarities, it’s clear Armatus is taking elements from other epic post-apocalyptic adventures like Remnant 2 and Hellgate: London (remember that one?). It all sounds fittingly video game-y and old-school, but we’re hoping for more meat and dying to learn more about its universe.
Armatus Gameplay
Unsurprisingly, Armatus is evolving many gameplay bits and pieces previously seen in Godfall, the studio’s previous game in the roguelite shooter subgenre, yet it’s hard not to spot reverence for Returnal too.
We haven’t learned about the specific mechanics and systems that aim to set Armatus apart from its relatives, but the gameplay footage shared so far looks fast and furious, full of hard-hitting firearms as well as celestial melee weapons like a magical scythe. Passive and active abilities are gained as you traverse new levels, and the developers are promising “godly” powers by the time you reach its later stages. So far, it also appears it’s a single-player game.
Armatus Price and Platforms
Fictions hasn’t set a price tag for Armatus yet, but we do know it’s coming to PC (Steam, Xbox), Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and even Nintendo Switch 2. More details are expected to arrive in the coming months, so stay tuned for the latest news on this front.
