Battlefield 6 has been enjoying lots of success so far, and it seems Season 1 will keep the party going into December at least. Not everything is wonderful, however, and EA and the devs are now cracking down on custom experiences and the Portal side of the game with yet another round of nerfs to XP gains and more.
The latest community update, dropped on October 24, directly addresses what’s going on with all those XP farms and how they plan to move forward regarding Community and Portal experiences. It’s a very quick answer after previous tweaks failed to change things much.
“Recently, we shared that we’re making changes to reduce the number of XP farm servers appearing in the Server Browser and Community Experiences. These servers have made it harder for players to discover the kinds of experiences Portal was created for. We have organized a series of changes to emphasize our commitment to highlighting the player community and making this a space where you can celebrate creativity, find unique experiences, play with friends, and build communities.”
Two new updates are being rolled out as soon as today:
- Verified Experiences with “Bot Backfill” disabled continue to grant Full Progression and XP.
- Custom Experiences will continue earning reduced progression, regardless of whether bots are active. This keeps creative freedom and allows you to express yourself within Portal while maintaining progression balance.
The developers note players who have created experiences that are affected by the changes will need to republish them taking the tweaks into account. This should help preserve the genuine ones with adjusted XP gains while nuking a good number of progression-breaking severs and letting more enjoyable/creative experiences take over that space in the browser.
At the same time, the team has acknowledged many of those servers exist in the first place because some challenges might feel way too grindy, and are therefore acting on those as we speak. Expect more updates on that front in the near future.
Regarding the future of Portal (more content and updates are promised with seasonal drops), Battlefield Studios are applauding the community’s creativity and passion so far while also teasing more changes to ensure things remain fair and enjoyable for everyone. No doubt, this will be an ongoing effort with ups and downs, but it’s great to see a big publisher doubling down on community-driven content.
Last but not least, the developers have confirmed that Verified Experiences (custom servers approved by the Battlefield team which don’t get too crazy) hosted by BattlefieldOfficial or BFPortalOfficial accounts are indeed created and maintained by EA. You can check that information out while scrolling up and down the server browser.
