Publisher and developer Studio 568 has announced that sci-fi strategy game Calyx is gearing up to enter Steam Early Access at the end of January.
Calyx blends real-time strategy and base building elements, putting us in charge of a lone mining outpost. Aside from overseeing its operation and ensuring it keeps mining the planet’s riches, we’re also tasked with protecting it against the hostile alien plant life that’s looking to kick us out of its turf.
Calyx Steam Early Access Release
Managing the outpost involves setting up a power network, building harvesters, and refining valuable ore that then gets sent to orbit, rewarding us with credits.
Walls and turrets help protect our base while tanks and artillery enable us to push back our alien foe before it overwhelms us.
Research points then give us access to advanced units and buildings, including the Inferno flamethrower that proves surprisingly efficient at burning vegetation and an orbital laser.
Here is what we can expect from Calyx’s initial Steam Early Access release, slated to occur on January 29, 2026:

- Choose your tech level and generate a layout
- Share the seed with friends so you can play the same challenge
The small team behind the sci-fi strategy game decided to release Calyx in Steam Early Access to “receive essential feedback to help us build out the experience and make the final game the best it can possibly be.”
