Chronicles: Medieval’s release date throws us into the chaos of its European medieval world, giving us the tools to write our own story as we navigate warfare, economics, and diplomacy in what publisher and developer Raw Power Games describes as a “dynamic sandbox.”
Its initial showing suggests that it inhabits a similar space to the Mount and Blade series, allowing us to command armies and interact with a variety of characters from up close. Entering early access with a focus on the experience of leading troops on the battlefield, the title also taps into other aspects of medieval life.

Chronicles: Medieval Gameplay
Gameplay-wise, Chronicles: Medieval lets us customize our very own character, which we guide through the ranks of the game’s European medieval world.
We begin navigating its sandbox at the very bottom, steadily earning reputation as we take part in skirmishes, field battles, and sieges. Victory brings power, which eventually sees us building castles that we then need to defend.
During battles, we take to the field, which is why donning the proper gear is vital for survival. Awareness of our army’s composition and the nature of the battlefield, as well as adopting the right tactics for each clash are equally important.
We’ll recruit, train, and lead units such as English longbowmen and French cavalry, issuing orders and adapting to different combat situations on the fly. Furthermore, we’ll also be able to bring our friends into custom battles.
Chronicles: Medieval aims for an authentic combat experience that nonetheless takes liberties to ensure its gameplay remains fun for long stretches of time.
After the planning stage, battles alternate between giving orders to our troops and directly engaging in combat. Outside of these clashes, we’ll also interact with NPCs while taking important decisions.
We can freely roam its map, which covers “a big part of medieval Europe,” visiting settlements and castles, attacking cravans, chasing bandits, or completing quests.
Economy and trading also plays a role in both our success and that of the factions we’ll interact with, as does diplomacy.
Over the course of early access, developer Raw Power Games aims to improve all facets of Chronicles: Medieval while ensuring it has a “powerful modding platform to extend the game beyond its original scope.”
Chronicles: Medieval Price and Platforms
Chronicles: Medieval will initially only be available on PC when it enters early access via Steam, but console versions are planned for its full launch. Its price has yet to be revealed, but will be lower during its early access phase.
