Though the amount of all-new RTS releases we’re getting has been larger as of late, there are many underrated classics which could use re-releases and remasters. Now, the strategy game gods have listened to our prayers and brought back the Brazilian RTS Outlive, first released in 2000, with a remaster titled Outlive 25.
It’s actually original developer Continuum Entertainment who’s handling the remaster alongside publisher CriticalLeap, and while we don’t have a release date yet, we know the game’s coming before the end of 2025 to Steam. You can watch the latest teaser trailer below:
As revealed by the trailer, Outlive 25’s Steam Next Fest demo will be available from October 10th at 10am PT to October 20th at 10am PT. “Just as Outlive 25 is a remaster of Outlive, its demo is a remake of the original game’s demo from 2000, featuring a standalone campaign that serves as a prologue to the events of the three main campaigns, as well as a tutorial to familiarize new players with the genre,” the new press release states.
While the game has three campaigns, there are only two factions to choose from: Robots and humans. “Set in a future where machines have risen to wage war against their creators and the world is suffering a scarcity of natural resources, you must pick a side and make your play for world domination,” the synopsis states. It’s a familiar setting for sure, but back in the early 2000s, it was more than enough to get a really stimulating RTS going.
It’s also worth underlining Outlive 25 will bring back the 16-player multiplayer mode and a new campaign editor which enables RTS diehards to create full maps, missions, and even full campaigns. As for the remastering effort, it focuses, of course, on touched-up visuals, modern enhancements, and options to make it more accessible.
