If you want to warm up for the release of GTA 6 with a trip through the series’ past, you can pick up a large slice of car-stealing, pedestrian-squishing history on Steam right now for a new low price.
We’re coming up on thirteen years since Grand Theft Auto 5 was released, and 25 years since the series exploded into life with GTA 3. So it’s safe to say the impending release of GTA 6 later this year (hopefully!) is a long time coming and pretty monumental.
I don’t know about you, but when a new entry is on the horizon of a series I’ve got a deep love for, whether that be movies, games, or books, I like to revisit some, if not all, of the past entries in the lead up to the new one’s launch. I did that with Paul Thomas Anderson films last year, ahead of One Battle After Another, and this year, I went back to my favorites in the Resident Evil series in preparation for Requiem ( I even had to wrestle with whether Resident Evil 6 was worth playing again).
I’ve been thinking about going back to the previous GTA games, too. Remind myself of the series’ evolution over the nearly three decades since the first game launched. I can’t be alone in that, and I imagine some would be pretty happy with getting some of those older titles at a discounted price.
GTA Trilogy Offers History at a Discount on Steam
Well, here’s a chance. On Steam, you can now pick up GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition for a whopping 67% off. That’s GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for £19.79.
If you haven’t picked up this version of these games yet because of their well-earned poor reputation at launch, that’s fair, but they are in much better shape these days.
GTA 3 took the series into 3D for the first time and became a cornerstone of the PS2 era of success. These days, it’s a fascinating relic that reminds you of how far we’ve come, but in 2001, it was a mind-blowing experience.
Which was, of course, topped by the phenomenon of GTA Vice City. The pastel-shaded violence of 80s Miami, and an absolutely stacked soundtrack handpicked for the time period, created a monster that helped Rockstar become the titan it is today.
Then you have GTA: San Andreas, a swaggering, ambitious swing for the fences to close out the series’ run on the sixth generation of consoles in a sprawling fictional recreation of California.
All three are important moments in video game history, so if you want to revisit them or pick them up for the first time, they’re on sale until April 23, 2026.
GTA 5 isn’t currently on sale, but you probably own at least three copies by now. The best GTA is on sale though, so why not head back to Liberty City and grab GTA 4: The Complete Edition for just over a fiver?
