Control Resonant’s announcement during 2025’s The Game Awards made waves, unveiling an action-RPG which follows Dylan Faden as he hacks and slashes his way across a warped Manhattan using a shapeshifting melee weapon named The Aberrant.
Aside from capturing the attention of fans and confirming that developer Remedy Entertainment isn’t shying away from experimentation, despite the failure of live service title FBC: Firebreak, it also helped boost the original Control’s sales in 2025.
Control Resonant Boosts Original Game’s Sales in 2025
The studio confirmed as much in its most recent financial report:
“Control sold well during the fourth quarter, and we continued the work started earlier in the year after receiving the full publishing and distribution rights: expanding the reach of the game and finding new addressable audiences for the whole Control franchise. Sales of Control also received a boost from the announcement of Control Resonant.”
Just in 2025, Control sold more than 1 million copies, further establishing its position as one of Remedy Entertainment’s core IPs.
As the original game continues to sell a significant amount of copies, the studio has confirmed that, in 2026, “ensuring the successful launch of Control Resonant will be our top priority.”
The action-RPG sequel’s success is, perhaps, more vital than ever, after last year’s FBC: Firebreak failed to impress critics and fans alike, prompting the departure of then-CEO Tero Virtala.
Co-founder Markus Mäki stepped in as interim CEO late last year. The company announced yesterday that Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who previously worked at Electronic Arts and CCP Games, will take over the role starting on March 1, 2026.
While Control Resonant will be Remedy Entertainment’s primary focus in 2026, the studio continues to support FBC Firebreak with “smaller updates.” The Max Payne 1&2 remake remains in full production, while a new, unannounced project currently sits in the proof of concept stage.
