Diablo III’s always-online requirement has been a point of debate since day one andError Code 1016 is one of several issues that has been plaguing players since the title’s launch.

Diablo III Error Code 1016
Diablo III’s Error Code 1016 seems to be a generic connection error tied to bad connectivity that can happen because of issues on the player’s side.
When you lose connection to the servers and are dealing with Diablo III’s Error Code 1016, it’s worth checking whether your internet is, perhaps, down or working more slowly than usual.
If that’s not the case, Blizzard has listed a number of approaches you could take on its support site. They are as follows:
- Reset your network devices to make sure your router hasn't become flooded with data.
- Release and renew your IP and flush your DNS to resolve any network conflicts.
- Update your drivers and operating system to resolve any compatibility issues.
- If you're using a wireless connection, optimize your internet connection to rule out a connection issue.
- Close all other applications to resolve software conflicts and free up resources.
Some players have reported getting past Diablo III’s Error Code 1016 by disabling their ethernet controller’s IPv6 protocol.
To do so, head to the Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter Settings. Double click on your ethernet controller, click on Properties, go to the Networking tab and uncheck IPv6.
