Is sci-fi MMORPG Dual Universe coming to Steam? If so, what is the "Dual Universe Steam release date"?
Dual Universe's beta is slated for an August 27 release, opening the MMORPG's gates to allow more players to step in and see what developer Novaquark has built. Thus, it's not surprising to see players wondering about a potential Dual Universe Steam release date.
The developer has actually tackled the subject in an FAQ article in which it says that while it doesn't exclude an eventual Dual Universe Steam or Epic Games Store release, there are no plans for it to happen during the game's beta phase.
Dual Universe Steam Release Date
"We are not excluding launching on third party distribution platforms in the future, if the conditions are right. It won’t happen for the launch of the Beta though, and the game will only be available for purchase on the game’s website for now. We do understand that many of you may wait for Dual Universe to come on a platform, but for now, we will self-publish the game on our website.", reads a post on the Dual Universe website.
"While being on Steam or the Epic Games Store will enable us to reach a wider audience, accessing the game directly through our website will help support the game in a better way, as most of your money will go to Novaquark, while other platforms charge a significant fee for listing Dual Universe on their game store.", it continues.
Thus, a Dual Universe Steam release date announcement is unlikely to happen in the near future. Novaquark is also not the only MMO developer that chooses to stick to its own launcher.
Heavy hitters World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2 are only a few names in the genre that have taken a similar approach.
Dual Universe is quite an ambitious MMORPG that gives players the reins when it comes to building anything from planetary buildings to ships and massive space stations in its fully editable world. You can get a better idea of what the game is aiming for in the trailer below.
