The last game in the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 2042, released in 2021 and was met with a mixed reception, primarily due to its limited single-player mode, causing publisher EA and developer DICE to reconsider the future of the franchise before revealing Battlefield 6 late last week.
They showed a heavy emphasis on destruction, with the producer of the game saying to PCGamer that Battlefield Bad Company 2 was a direct inspiration for them.
“That game particularly delivered on a level of fidelity and a sort of intimate destructive experience. Blasting out a single wall, bringing down a partial building, or entire buildings. It was comprehensive, and it felt like the identity of that game more than anything else. We know that was kind of missing from our last game, and we really wanted to go back to that.”
An early access beta for Battlefield 6 is scheduled to begin this Thursday, August 7, before an open beta commences on August 9. The full game, however, is scheduled to launch on October 10, with more on the game expected in the coming months.
