Third-person real-time strategy game Empire of the Ants is getting its first major update later today. Dubbed Swarm Together, it introduces three new game modes, a stealthy new unit and power, alongside a suite of quality of life changes.
While Horde mode pits us against endless waves of enemies in both single-player and co-op, the Story Challenge mode revolves around replaying six scripted missions and optimizing our strategies to reach new high scores. The fairly self-explanatory 2 Players vs 2 AI mode comes packaged with a new map suitable for large scale battles.
Empire of the Ants Swarm Together Update
Empire of the Ants’ Swarm Together update sees the roster of recruitable units growing with The Paussy, a stealthy ant adept at stealing resources from enemy nests while remaining undetected.
The title’s newest power, Pheromone Storm, then allows us to cover areas in fog, blocking vision and allowing us to set up surprise attacks.
Empire of the Ants’ Swarm Together update also caters to those of us who’ve led our colonies into battle many times by introducing three new AI difficulty levels meant to challenge experienced players.
In addition, loadouts allow us to save our “favorite arsenals and select them based on the map before each match.”
The list of balance changes included in the update is rather small, but should nonetheless shake things up. Here’s what to expect:
- Aphids now grant a movement speed bonus.
- Snails move 30% faster.
- Dor beetles take 5 to 10% less damage.
- Hornets take 10 to 15% more damage from Gunners.
- “Information” upgrades are now cheaper and more effective.
Empire of the Ants’ Swarm Together update is slated to go live today, July 16, 2025, at 9 AM PDT/12 PM ET/5 PM BST.
