After a lengthy Christmas break and a major patch before that much-needed “offline” period for all of us, Amplitude Studios is starting 2026 by dealing with a number of pressing Endless Legend 2 bugs and by teasing the big changes coming to the 4X strategy game soon.
Past ‘state of the game’ reports have been full of meaty details on the background work being done on the game, upcoming changes, and even player feedback as processed by the studio. They’re useful to know where the game is at and what’s the overarching plan as Endless Legend 2’s early access run continues.
Following the many updates in the December build and the launch of multiplayer, balance hasn’t been the best, and a number of bugs have started bothering players in the early game. With a long two-week holiday period, bug fixes didn’t come fast enough, but even devs must rest, so calm down!
In any case, Amplitude has now made notes on those, which should be squashed soon. Based on the data collected from feedback (forums and Steam posts/reviews), players are happier with multiplayer (there was none before), the flow of city construction, and victory conditions, but bad AI and confusing UI woes remain. Of course, the opinion around bugs and balance worsened too.
Amplitude maintains part of the harsher feedback comes from newcomers who are probably less used to the studio’s signature brand of dense 4X game, yet the developers have been taking all feedback seriously.
On the matter of AI difficulty, data shows newbies are struggling while advanced players adjust well to recent changes. Thus, expect to see changes on the lower difficulty tiers over major shakeups at the top.
Multiplayer is faring quite well, and feedback has been positive, yet player interaction complaints and map size suggestions are on the table. Far more pressing is the recurring issue of desyncs the veteran studio wants to bring down in the near future.
A new public-test-branch beta update is now available, and the expectation is that it’ll lead into the next major update later this month. The key features and changes (on top of the usual bug fixes and tweaks) are:
-
Updated victory conditions: Multiple objectives need to be completed and there’s been a major rebalance pass on them.
-
Militia update: Amount of militia is now determined by the fortification level of the city instead of technology, which made the capital “as well defended as your new settlement.” The immediate adjustment players need to make is working on military/defensive improvements sooner.
-
Hero skills update: Rebalanced skills to fit the rebalanced hero stats. Overpowered abilities are coming to an end.
-
Writing improvements: Editor pass done on all the major faction and pacification quests to adjust the tone across the board.
