Endless Legend 2’s Steam Early Access launch has been quite solid, yet a number of concerns regarding AI and menus were raised early on, and according to the first ‘state of the game’ report from Amplitude, work is being done on that front and more.
Only a couple of weeks ago, the early access roadmap was shared, and that was when we first learned about Amplitude’s plans to address criticisms of the slightly convoluted UI. Another top priority seems to be better AI behaviors, with a long list of changes being shared in this same update. At the same time, the meaty blog post has shed some light on player sentiment around different aspects of the game. So far, all the different factions appear to be pleasing most players, yet the Doomwraiths have been at the center of many gameplay-related complaints.
As a direct result, changes to Doomwraiths coming to the game include the following:
- Corruption applied by Doomwraiths on city is now less impactful. We have made it so that the maluses are now increasing over time up to 50% after 10 turns.
- The “Bait Doomwraith” action is now unlocked by default.
- The “Close Rift” action is now unlocked by default.
- Doomwraiths now react immediately when using the “Bait Doomwraith” action.
- Added a 50% reduction cost to the “Bait Doomwraith” action to the “Collective Sacrifice” technology.
- Increased the cost of the “Bait Doomwraith” action. It is now based on the distance it is sent from its settled territory and also increases after each monsoon.
After the balancing and stability update, the second major one will include multiplayer and a substantial Diplomacy rework, so hold tight if you’re not convinced by the current version of the system. Simultaneous turns are algo being looked at as part of these later updates, but for now, Amplitude is giving players the option to better know when the AI is done moving and changing things before acting if they don’t want to “race” it.
The blog post also goes to explain specific tweaks to the AI opponents and allies we won’t be listing here, so we really encourage giving it a proper read. As for the UI changes that will reshape how players engage with menus, the featured image shows what Amplitude is currently planning to move forward with. The city screen will also get a rework, and the team’s already looking at other areas too. “These changes won’t all come at once. We will roll them out as they become available (without breaking other things) so that we can get feedback from you as we go.”
