Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord’s War Sails expansion has been delayed, publisher and developer TaleWorlds Entertainment announced today. Initially slated to launch in mid-June, it is now expected to release at some point during early fall 2025.
Bannerlord’s first single-player expansion introduces naval combat that relies on realistic wind and water physics alongside 18 ships modeled after historical vessels. In addition, it “reimagines” Calradia to include a northern region that acts as home for the new Nord faction, as well as a settled island, coastal waters, and open seas.
Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord’s War Sails Expansion Delayed
“We came to this decision after a lot of thought (and a few long meetings), because we need more time to reach the level of quality you rightfully expect,” the publisher noted when explaining its reasoning behind delaying Bannerlord’s War Sails expansion.
“The extra development period will give us more time to apply additional polish, and continue making progress on the improvements to the base game that are already in motion— we believe this short delay will ultimately lead to a better and more enjoyable experience for all players.”
Although it has yet to commit to a new date, new information about the expansion’s release timeline will be communicated over the coming weeks.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - War Sails is now aiming for an early fall 2025 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be accompanied by a major free update available to all owners of the base game.
In our review, we found that Bannerlord “is bound to feel overwhelming for most people, but a bit of perseverance could see you discovering a timesink that will be the source of many a happy anecdote.”
Hopefully, delaying War Sails allows the developer to fine-tune its promising ship-to-ship combat enough that it leaves those exploring waters new and old with plenty of fresh war tales.
