The Game Awards statue mystery has been cleared up. Larian Studios is working on a new game in its Divinity series.
At The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley addressed the viral mystery of the statue placed in the Nevada desert ahead of the show. In walked a bunch of people dressed as peasants, and then a cinematic trailer for Larian’s next game began on the big screen.
Divinity Returns in Bloody Cinematic Trailer
The cinematic sees a gathering of said peasants around a bonfire-like structure with a human sacrifice atop it. That is revealed to be the Hellstone (the statue that appeared in the desert), and things get…messy.
Check out the cinematic trailer below.
Larian’s Swen Vincke took to social media after the reveal to express how nervous they were about the announcement, and stated this new Divinity game will be Larian’s biggest, most ambitious RPG to date.
Divinity Original Sin and its sequel are two of the greatest RPGs in recent memory, but they were unquestionably surpassed by Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3. That game went on to become a critical darling and a commercial success, making the developer a real force in the industry.
While plenty of Baldur’s Gate 3 fans would have hoped for a follow-up from Larian, the freedom returning to its own series gives it in a post-BG3 world, promising something very special indeed.
The new Divinity game currently has no release date. Given the time it took to create Baldur’s Gate 3, I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
