Paradox Interactive Chief Executive Officer Fredrik Wester today praised the Victoria 3 team which, in his view, has “done a tremendous job in turning the tide on the game” following its rocky launch and the mixed reaction to its initial set of DLC.
His comments followed a lengthier response from Chief Financial Officer Alexander Bricca, who, during the livestream covering the company’s interim financial report for the period between January and September 2025, provided some context into Victoria 3’s overall situation and how the publisher is “very happy” with its recent financial performance.
Victoria 3’s Pulls Off “quite strong” Financial Performance, “as of now”
“We are very happy with what Victoria 3 has turned out to be. Charters of Commerce was a milestone for sure, but also in this third quarter, we released content that was appreciated by the players and we can see the player activity is high,” Bricca replied to an inquiry about the publisher’s opinion of the game’s performance following the launch of the DLC that notably helped steer things in the right direction.
He noted that work to improve the game began well before the Charters of Commerce DLC and its accompanying 1.9 update released.
“Victoria 3 is a project that, if you look at the whole project up until now, it has had kind of a poor performance, everything accumulated or aggregated, but as of now, the financial performance is quite strong.”
Bricca describes it as “quite a long investment […] that we are now finally seeing the benefits from,” before noting that he believes Victoria 3’s success will continue “for many years.”
His optimism is, however, grounded in reality, admitting that while “Charters of Commerce has allowed us to take [Victoria 3] to a certain level,” there is a “need to continuously come out with qualitative content that players want [at] a good pace” if the publisher is to capitalize on this momentum and secure Victoria 3’s spot as one of its evergreen franchises.
Bricca and Wester’s enthusiasm comes a few days after Game Director Martin Anward noted that the team’s “morale is high” ahead of Victoria 3’s third anniversary, when we also learned that more content is on the way.
If you missed it, the full livestream will be shared on the Paradox Interactive YouTube channel at a later point in time.
