Point-and-click enthusiasts can pick up a variety of genre classics at their lowest price yet on Steam.
While the point-and-click genre has never really died, it’s seen something of a renaissance in recent times, with newer audiences discovering the storytelling and puzzling joys of a historic PC staple. So they might be keen to dig into that history.
Luckily, there’s plenty on Steam, and you can get some at low, low prices right now. Let’s take a look at some highlights you can pick up.
Point and Click on These Deals
The Longest Journey had its wide release in 2000, and the Norwegian adventure offered a unique concept. It sees a young art student discovering a parallel Earth where magic exists. So there’s a heady blend of sci-fi and high fantasy.
You can pick it up for £3.39 on its own or with its 2006 followup Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, for £8.39. Throw in the episodic Dreamfall Chapters that began in 2014, and you can experience the whole saga for £24.86.
Back in the early 2000s, during the pomp of my initial PC gaming adventures, Microids’ Syberia was a constant fixture. The game had a distinctive Art Nouveau style, and the story of lawyer Kate Walker’s journey to find a lost relative of a deceased business owner was as enthralling as any conspiracy-laden mystery.
You can pick up the vanilla original for only £1.99 or couple it with last year’s striking remaster for £19.33, which is less than buying the remaster alone. The original Syberia II is also up for a couple of quid. I never finished that one back in the day, so yes, I already bought it.
The game that birthed the Syberia series also got a remaster last year, and Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy joins in the sale fun too.
Looking for something a touch more chilling? Dark Fall: The Journal and its follow-up Dark Fall 2: Lights Out are just over a quid each or bundled together for only £1.74. The Myst-style adventure follows an unnamed protagonist who must stop an ancient evil known as the Dark Fall before it overpowers them.
Finally, something a touch more recent, but based on the classic Agatha Christie character, Hercule Poirot, The ABC Murders puts you behind the waxed mustache of the great Belgian detective for an incredibly low price of £1.09.
